APC Chairman: 5 Things to Know About Nentawe Yilwatda

At the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on Thursday, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda was sworn in as the party’s new national chairman. He takes over from Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down last month.

Here are five key facts about Yilwatda:

1. A Plateau State Native

Nentawe Yilwatda was born on August 8, 1968, in the village of Dungung, located in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State. He grew up there before pursuing higher education and a career in engineering and public service.

2. Seasoned Politician and APC Flagbearer

In the 2023 elections, Yilwatda ran as the APC candidate for governor in Plateau State. Although he did not win, his campaign raised his profile within the party and showcased his commitment to APC ideals of good governance and development.

3. Former Electoral Commissioner in Benue

From July 2017 until December 2021, Yilwatda served as Resident Electoral Commissioner for Benue State, an appointment he received from the late President Muhammadu Buhari. In that role, he oversaw the organisation of state and national elections, earning a reputation for fairness and attention to detail.

4. Longtime ICT Director at Makurdi University

Before entering politics, Yilwatda spent twelve years as the ICT Director at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi. He led the university’s efforts to upgrade computer systems, connect campuses online and train staff and students in digital skills.

5. Family and Faith

A committed Christian, Prof. Yilwatda is married to Dr. Martina Goshwe, and together they raise their family in Abuja. His faith community and family life are sources of personal strength that he often credits for his public‑service drive.
