Governor Abdullahi Sule has named Emmanuel Ombugadu as the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Nasarawa State gubernatorial election. Ombugadu will run on a joint ticket with Senator Ahmed Wadada.
The selection marks a key step in the party’s preparations for the next election cycle. By formalising the Wadada-Ombugadu pairing, the APC aims to consolidate its leadership structure in the state ahead of the 2027 polls.
The decision to appoint Ombugadu as the running mate to Senator Wadada follows strategic political alignments within the Nasarawa APC to ensure a competitive ticket for the upcoming contest.
Senator Ahmed Wadada, a prominent figure in the National Assembly, is expected to lead the party’s campaign for the governorship. The selection of Ombugadu is intended to provide a balanced ticket that appeals to the diverse political interests across the state’s various local government areas.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, who has led Nasarawa State since 2015, remains a central figure in the party’s decision-making process. His endorsement of the ticket signals a move to maintain political continuity and secure the party’s hold on the state government.
The 2027 elections in Nasarawa are expected to be highly competitive. The APC’s early announcement of its deputy candidate is a move to stabilise the party and prevent internal friction during the pre-election period.
The formal validation of these candidates will occur during the party’s primary elections, conducted in accordance with the electoral guidelines provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The party is now expected to begin grassroots mobilisation to secure support for the Wadada-Ombugadu ticket.
