APC Suspends Ex-Minister Aregbesola for Anti-Party Activities
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola. The suspension follows allegations of anti-party activities, including public criticism of President Bola Tinubu and other senior figures within the party.
Aregbesola, who also served two terms as Governor, had openly opposed the re-election of his successor, Adegoyega Oyetola, and was reported to have allied with opposition forces during the 2022 Osun governorship and 2023 general elections.
In 2022, Aregbesola’s negative comments about party leaders, including a prayer against them, received widespread condemnation. A disciplinary committee from his local APC chapter in Ifofin, Ilesa, investigated these actions and confirmed his anti-party activities.
A formal letter from the APC, dated October 24, 2024, outlined six charges against Aregbesola, including creating splinter groups within the party, collaborating with opposition parties, and publicly criticising party leadership. The letter, addressed to APC’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, confirmed his suspension pending further investigation.
The APC has set up a disciplinary committee to look deeper into these allegations and to provide Aregbesola an opportunity to respond to the charges laid against him.
