Baba-Ahmed claims Tinubu failed Nigerians on economy and security

The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of failing to deliver on the fundamental requirements of economic stability and national security.

Mr Baba-Ahmed noted that the current security climate has prevented millions of children from attending school, thereby jeopardising the future of an entire generation. He also identified the rising cost of living and the increasing prevalence of dangerous roads as critical failures that continue to distress the Nigerian populace.

The opposition leader’s remarks, made in a critique of the Tinubu administration’s performance, point out the growing dissatisfaction with the government’s ability to manage the country’s socio-economic and safety challenges.

Impact of economic and security crises

The PRP chairman pointed out that the pervasive nature of insecurity has directly disrupted the education of millions of Nigerian children. According to Baba-Ahmed, the fear of kidnappings and banditry has made many schools unsafe, leading to a significant decline in school attendance across various regions of the country.

He further observed that the safety of the Nigerian populace is being compromised by deteriorating road conditions and the high risk of travel on major routes. This lack of security, combined with the economic pressure on households, forms what the PRP chairman describes as a dual failure of governance.

On the economic front, Baba-Ahmed emphasised the relentless rise in the cost of living. As inflation continues to impact the prices of basic food items and essential services, the chairman argued that the administration has not provided sufficient relief or effective policies to cushion the impact on the average citizen.

The criticism arrives as the administration continues to navigate the complexities of its economic reforms, which have included the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market. While the government maintains these steps are necessary for long-term stability, the immediate socio-economic consequences remain a point of intense political contention.

The PRP has traditionally positioned itself as a party focused on the interests of the working class and the marginalised, and these latest comments reflect the party’s attempt to hold the current leadership accountable for the daily hardships faced by the electorate.

The presidency has yet to issue an official response to the specific allegations made by the PRP National Chairman regarding the school attendance crisis and the state of national roads.
