Bad Boys: Ride or Die Grosses N68.94 Million in First Three Days at Nigerian Cinemas

The action-comedy film “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” has significantly impacted Nigerian cinemas, grossing N68.94 million within its first three days of release. 

Starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, the movie premiered in Nigeria on June 7, 2024.

According to the Cinema Association of Nigeria, the film quickly became the top movie in Nigerian cinemas from June 7 to June 9, 2024. 

This impressive debut pushed other films down the rankings.

“Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” the fourth installment in the popular buddy cop series, continues the adventures of Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett.

Directed by Adil & Bilall and written by Chris Bremner and Will Beall, the film features returning actors Joe Pantoliano, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Núñez, Jacob Scipio, John Salley, and DJ Khaled. 

Tasha Smith joins the cast as Theresa Burnett, replacing Theresa Randle from the previous films.

Other notable titles at the box office include the Nollywood biopic “Funmilayo Ransom Kuti,” which has earned about N131.4 million after four weeks in theaters, and “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” with N105.9 million after three weeks in cinemas.

Meanwhile, the Nollywood crime thriller “Criminal” holds the fourth position, with a total gross of N32.3 million, including N8.9 million from the past week. 

The comedy-drama “Ajosepo” has shown remarkable staying power, consistently ranking in the top 10.

 Initially released from April 10 to April 14, “Ajosepo” earned N50.4 million in its first five days and currently holds the eighth spot with a weekly gross of N2.4 million, bringing its total earnings to N251.4 million.

“Deafening Silence,” which premiered on June 7, 2024, has made a modest start, grossing N1.2 million to date. 

The Yoruba epic “Blacksmith: Alagbede” rounds out the list with a total gross of N62 million, adding N974,675 in the past week.

Key Points

The plot of “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” follows detectives Lowrey and Burnett as they work to clear the name of their late Captain Conrad Howard, who has been falsely accused of conspiracy. 

The film’s mix of action and comedy, along with the chemistry between its lead actors, has proven to be a winning formula once again.

“Bad Boys: Ride or Die” had its world premiere at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on May 22, 2024, before its release in the United States and other markets on June 7, 2024. 

Despite mixed reviews from critics, the film has shown strong commercial appeal, grossing over $120 million worldwide against a production budget of $100 million.
