Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri Quits PDP
Bayelsa State governor Douye Diri has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The announcement came on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, through his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah. Diri did not immediately say which party he will join next.
Different reports also claim some Bayelsa House of Assembly members resigned alongside him, though the exact number varies and is still being confirmed. This move deepens uncertainty for the PDP in the South-South and adds to a wider wave of defections ahead of 2027.
The next things to watch are: Diri’s destination party, whether more lawmakers follow, and how PDP leaders respond in Bayelsa and nationally.
