Baze University has acquired two aircraft to expand its aviation education programmes. The move is designed to provide students with the necessary tools for practical, hands-on training in flight operations and aeronautical sciences.
Vice-Chancellor Abiodun Adeniyi stated that the acquisition reflects an investment philosophy that connects entrepreneurship with national development. He noted that the acquisition is intended to create a link between academic theory and the practical skills required to support the nation’s technical sectors.
The acquisition of two aircraft to expand aviation education follows a strategic decision by the university’s founder to increase the institution’s capacity in specialised professional fields.
Bridging the gap in aviation training
The Nigerian aviation industry continues to face a persistent demand for highly skilled personnel, including pilots, engineers, and aeronautical technicians. By providing on-campus access to aircraft, Baze University aims to reduce the reliance on foreign training institutions, which often requires significant capital flight by Nigerian students seeking specialised instruction.
Providing hands-on experience is a critical requirement for vocational excellence in the aviation sector. The integration of these aircraft into the university’s teaching model is expected to improve the readiness of graduates for the rigorous demands of both the domestic and international aviation markets.
The university’s expansion into aviation training aligns with a broader trend of private higher education institutions in Nigeria diversifying their curricula to meet specific labour market needs. This approach supports the goal of developing a local workforce capable of managing complex transport and infrastructure systems.
The university has not yet disclosed the technical specifications of the aircraft or the specific flight schedules for student use. However, the institution is expected to integrate these assets into its existing syllabus as it rolls out enhanced practical training modules for its aeronautical programmes.
