The Benue State Government has denied receiving any official notification regarding a visit to the state by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi.
The denial follows reports that his convoy was allegedly blocked by youths during a movement within the state.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor stated that the administration was entirely unaware of the politician’s presence in the state. As a result, no security arrangements, traffic management, or official protocols were put in place to manage the movement of the NDC candidate or his entourage.
The incident has raised questions about the standard operating procedures for high-profile political figures traversing different regions in Nigeria. Typically, when a presidential candidate conducts a tour, the host state’s authorities and security agencies are notified well in advance.
