President Bola Ahmed Tinubu formally pardoned Ken Saro-Wiwa and the eight other Ogoni activists who were convicted and executed under General Sani Abacha’s military government. The decision clears their names and acknowledges the injustice they suffered in 1995.
Alongside the pardon, Mr. Tinubu awarded a posthumous National Honour to Saro-Wiwa, widely recognised as the leader of the Ogoni community, highlighting his enduring legacy as an environmental and human-rights campaigner.
