Burna Boy Sets New African Record with $5.7 Million Canada Tour
Burna Boy has achieved another milestone, becoming the African artist with the highest-grossing tour in Canada.
According to a post by Touring Data on June 13, 2024, Burna Boy grossed $5.7 million from 69,219 tickets sold across six concerts during his ‘I Told Them’ tour in Canada. This accomplishment sets a new record for African artists.
Previously, Burna Boy made history by being the first African artist to headline and sell out the 19,000-capacity Scotia Bank Arena in Canada on February 24 and 25, 2024.
Burna Boy’s achievements underscore his status as a leading African artist on the global stage.
Earlier in the year, he became the first African artist to perform at the Grammy main ceremony, sharing the stage with 21 Savage and Brandy for a rendition of his hit single ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World.’
Additionally, at the 66th Grammys, Burna Boy became the first Nigerian artist to receive a nomination outside the global categories, with ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
Kicking off 2024 with a bang, Burna Boy featured on the remix of Titom & Yuppe’s ‘Twala Bam,’ which became the first South African lead song to top the TurnTable Top 100.
The talented music act is the only Nigerian artist nominated for Grammys in five consecutive years.
He is also the only Nigerian artist to win the Best International Act award at the BET Awards three consecutive times (2019, 2020, 2021) and the first to perform at the live Grammy Awards show.
He holds the record for the most streamed album in Africa (African Giant in 2019) and is the only Nigerian artist to win both Best African Music Act and Best International Act at the MOBO Awards.
