Court Postpones Falana’s Case Against VeryDarkMan to January 2025
On Thursday, an Ikeja High Court decided to postpone the defamation case filed by well-known lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, musician and activist Folarin Falana, also known as Falz, against online personality Vincent Otse, who is popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
The court set a new hearing date for January 23, 2025, to give both sides more time to prepare their cases.
The Falanas filed this lawsuit against VeryDarkMan, claiming that statements he made about them online have harmed their reputations. VeryDarkMan has gained a large following through his online activism, often speaking out on social and political issues.
However, certain remarks he made about the Falanas led them to seek legal action, arguing that his statements were false and damaging to their character.
When the case came up in court, Muiz Banire (SAN), the lawyer representing both Femi Falana and Falz, informed the judge that the initial legal documents outlining their claims had been filed and officially delivered to VeryDarkMan. These documents detail the Falanas’ defamation claims and the evidence they intend to present in court.
The judge’s decision to reschedule the hearing to January 2025 allows both parties extra time to gather more evidence and prepare their arguments, as defamation cases often involve detailed records and witness statements. The case will resume early next year, with both sides expected to present their evidence in court.
