What I Intend to Do in the North – Peter Obi
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi mentioned what he plans to do in Northern Nigeria if elected president in 2027. He said the region is one of the country’s greatest assets.
Speaking during a recent interview, Obi said the North holds massive untapped potential because of its large landmass, population strength, and agricultural opportunities.
According to him, the region can become the engine of Nigeria’s economic revival if properly managed.
Obi said his focus would be on turning the North into a major centre for food production and economic growth. He argued that Nigeria has depended too much on oil for decades while ignoring agriculture, which he believes can generate even more income if taken seriously.
He said vast areas of unused land across the North should be developed for modern farming, agro-processing, and large-scale food production. In his view, this would create jobs, reduce poverty, lower food prices, and increase exports.
Obi also stressed that development in the North cannot happen without solving key social problems. He said any serious government must invest heavily in education, healthcare, and security across the region.
According to him, improving schools will give young people better opportunities, while stronger healthcare systems will improve quality of life. He added that security must also be addressed so farmers can safely return to their land and businesses can operate without fear.
His comments appear aimed at convincing Northern voters that his presidency would not neglect the region but instead treat it as central to Nigeria’s future.
The statement has brought different reactions online. Supporters praised the focus on agriculture and development, saying the North needs investment more than political promises.
Also, critics have questioned whether such plans would be achievable and whether Northern voters would back him in 2027.
