Eno commits Akwa Ibom support for NIPP Lot 18 transmission project

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has pledged the state’s full cooperation to ensure the successful completion of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) Lot 18 transmission project. The Governor stated that the state would provide the necessary support to facilitate the project, which is intended to enhance electricity distribution within the state and the wider national grid.

The project is a critical component of Nigeria’s efforts to address chronic power deficits by strengthening the transmission infrastructure required to move electricity from generation plants to consumers. For Akwa Ibom, the completion of Lot 18 is expected to improve the reliability of the electricity supply, which remains a primary concern for both industrial and domestic users.

The commitment was made during discussions regarding the progress of the NIPP Lot 18 transmission project. Governor Eno noted that the state government is ready to work alongside federal agencies to ensure that technical teams and contractors encounter minimal administrative or local hurdles during the implementation phase.

Improving power stability in Akwa Ibom

The National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) was established to bridge the gap in Nigeria’s power sector by building and upgrading generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure. Transmission bottlenecks have frequently contributed to the instability of the national grid, leading to frequent collapses that leave millions of Nigerians without power.

By focusing on the Lot 18 transmission segment, the project aims to provide a more robust link for electricity to flow into Akwa Ibom. This is particularly important for the state’s growing industrial landscape. Reliable power is essential for manufacturing and small-scale enterprises to operate without the heavy financial burden of relying on diesel-powered generators.

The delivery of such large-scale infrastructure projects often requires significant coordination regarding land acquisition and community engagement. The Governor’s pledge suggests that the Akwa Ibom state government intends to take an active role in managing these local requirements to prevent delays in the project’s execution timeline.

As the federal government continues to implement reforms within the energy sector, the synergy between state authorities and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) remains a necessity. The next phase of the Lot 18 project will involve intensified technical work on the ground, with the state government monitoring progress to ensure the infrastructure meets the regional development needs of Akwa Ibom residents.
