Former Ekiti Governor’s aides donate food to Iyin-Ekiti children’s home

Former Technical Advisers to Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, have donated food items and essential supplies to the Erelu Adebayo Children’s Home in Iyin-Ekiti. The intervention is intended to improve the living conditions and nutritional support for the vulnerable children residing at the facility.

The donation included various food supplies and other basic necessities required for the daily upkeep of the home. This contribution is expected to provide immediate relief to the facility’s administrators and the children under their care, addressing urgent needs within the home.

This humanitarian gesture was part of efforts to support the welfare and wellbeing of vulnerable children and demonstrates how former public officials are engaging with community needs in the state.

The Erelu Adebayo Children’s Home serves as a sanctuary for orphans and children without stable parental care in the Iyin-Ekiti area. Such institutions often face challenges in maintaining consistent supplies of food and medical essentials, frequently relying on both government intervention and private philanthropy to sustain operations.

Challenges for social welfare in Ekiti

The donation comes at a time when many social welfare institutions across Nigeria are struggling to manage rising inflation and the increasing cost of food and medical commodities. For homes like Erelu Adebayo, which provide long-term care for vulnerable minors, the volatility of market prices can impact the nutritional standards and the overall quality of care provided to the children.

The former technical advisers, who previously served in the state’s executive branch, indicated that the visit was prompted by a commitment to community service and social responsibility. By engaging in such philanthropic activities, the former aides are helping to supplement the existing social safety net in Ekiti.

While the Ekiti State government, through its social development agencies, is tasked with the oversight of welfare facilities, private contributions remain vital. The involvement of former political actors can serve as a catalyst for wider community involvement in local social causes.

The management of the Erelu Adebayo Children’s Home is expected to integrate these supplies into their ongoing welfare programmes. However, the facility will continue to require sustained support to meet the growing needs of the children in its care.
