FG Closes Prosecution Case in Nnamdi Kanu’s Terrorism Trial

The Federal Government wrapped up its evidence in the terrorism and treason trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The announcement came after the fifth prosecution witness, identified only as “EEE” on security grounds, completed testimony. It was cross-examined by Kanu’s lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu, before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court.

Senior Advocate Adegboyega Awomolo, representing the government, told the court that the five witnesses called, together with recorded broadcasts allegedly linked to IPOB activities, provided a robust evidentiary foundation. “With this body of proof, we are satisfied to close our case,” Awomolo declared.

In response, Kanu’s lead defence counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), informed the court of the defence’s intention to file a no-case submission, challenging whether the prosecution has made out a prima facie case. The court will schedule further proceedings to consider that application.
