3 Filmmakers Who are Competing for Their December Film Release

December is shaping up to be an exciting month for Nollywood fans, with three major filmmakers gearing up for big-screen releases. Each film brings its unique flavor, featuring star-studded casts and highly anticipated storylines, and fans are eager to see which one will capture the biggest slice of the box office.

With each of these films boasting strong casts and unique stories, the race to claim December’s top box office spot will be fierce. The holiday season has become a go-to time for major Nollywood releases, with past films like The Wedding Party (2016) and Omo Ghetto: The Saga (2020) making record-breaking impressions.

As the trailers and promotional campaigns continue to roll out, fans are left wondering which film will dominate this December. Whether you’re drawn to Akindele’s nostalgic comedy, Abraham’s high-energy antics, or Aigbe’s dramatic flair, Nollywood is set to deliver a holiday season packed with entertainment for every taste.

Funke Akindele – Everybody Loves Jenifa

Funke Akindele returns to her roots with Everybody Loves Jenifa, building on her popular Jenifa franchise. The character Jenifa first graced our screens in 2008, quickly becoming a beloved figure in Nollywood. Over the years, Akindele expanded Jenifa’s universe with sequels and a long-running TV series, Jenifa’s Diary, under her production company, Scene One Productions.

In Everybody Loves Jenifa, Akindele promises to bring back the original charm and humor of Jenifa, now with fresh plot twists and new faces. Although the official trailer is still under wraps, excitement is building as the cast line-up includes favorites like Nancy Isime, Stan Nze, Falz, Lateef Adedimeji, Jackie Appiah, Destiny Etiko, Layi Wasabi, and Omowunmi Dada.

Toyin Abraham – Alakada: Bad and Boujee

Toyin Abraham brings the latest chapter in her popular Alakada comedy series with Alakada: Bad and Boujee. Known for her fun-loving and relatable characters, Abraham has been teasing this film since May 2024 with posters, social media dances, and sneak peeks, creating a huge buzz among her followers.

The cast, which includes Nollywood stars Bimbo Ademoye, Olumide Oworu, Ronke Odusanya, IK Ogbonna, Bimbo Akintola, and Toke Makinwa, has only added to the anticipation. Fans can expect another hilarious and high-energy installment that fits right into Abraham’s signature style. Alakada: Bad and Boujee is scheduled to hit cinemas nationwide on December 20, 2024, and is likely to be a major crowd-pleaser during the festive season.

Mercy Aigbe – Thin Line

Mercy Aigbe follows up on her 2023 success, Ada Omo Daddy, with a fresh production titled Thin Line. The film, directed by Akay Mason and executively produced by Kazeem Adeoti, wrapped filming in September 2024.

While the official release date hasn’t been confirmed, the film is expected to hit theaters this December. Aigbe has already begun promoting the movie on social media, revealing a cast that includes Nollywood regulars Iyabo Ojo, Jaye Kuti, Yvonne Jegede, Uche Montana, Niyi Johnson, and Uzor Arukwe.

Thin Line seems to bring a more dramatic tone, contrasting the lighter comedies in this December lineup. Given Aigbe’s influence and the star power of her cast, it’s likely that Thin Line will make a significant impact, especially among audiences looking for more depth alongside the season’s laughs.
