First Super Eagles Players Arrive in Uyo for World Cup Qualifiers

The road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has officially begun for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, as the national team opened camp in Uyo ahead of their crucial qualifying matches.

On Monday morning, three players were the first to check in at the team’s base, the 

Four Points by Sheraton Hotel. Captain William Troost-Ekong led the way, alongside defender Bruno Onyemaechi and goalkeeper Amas Obasogie, who all arrived early to kick off preparations.

The team, under the guidance of new head coach Eric Chelle, is gearing up for back-to-back Group C encounters against Rwanda and South Africa. 

Both games are considered decisive for Nigeria, who must pick up vital points to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the expanded 2026 World Cup to be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The rest of the 23-man squad is expected to join the early arrivals later today. Full training sessions will begin on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium practice pitch, as the Super Eagles fine-tune their strategies for the must-win fixtures.

With the team currently under pressure in the group standings, fans will be eager to see how quickly the players settle into camp and how Chelle shapes his tactics in the coming days.
