Husband of Late Gospel Singer Osinachi Sentenced to Death by Hanging
Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late gospel singer Osinachi, has been sentenced to death by hanging. The decision was made on Monday by Justice Nwosu-Iheme of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja.
Nwachukwu was found guilty of causing Osinachi’s death on April 8, 2022. The court ruled that the prosecution had proven its case, and Nwachukwu was guilty of culpable homicide.
He was charged with 23 offenses, including culpable homicide, criminal intimidation, cruelty to children, and spousal abuse. He was first brought to court on June 3, 2022, by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF) representing the Federal Government.
During the trial, the prosecution called 17 witnesses, including Osinachi’s two children, who gave evidence in court. The prosecution also presented 25 documents as evidence. Nwachukwu defended himself in court, calling four witnesses and submitting four exhibits in his defense.
Before sentencing, his lawyer, Reginald Nwali, asked the court for a lighter sentence. However, the prosecution lawyer, Mrs. Aderonke Imala, asked the court to follow the law.
Justice Nwosu-Iheme sentenced Nwachukwu to death by hanging for killing his wife. He was also sentenced to two years in prison for several charges, including abuse and intimidation. He was given six months for one charge and three years for another. The court also fined him N500,000 and N200,000 for two other offenses.
