INEC Opens 2026 Recruitment Portal: How to Apply

The Independent National Electoral Commission has opened its portal for the 2026 permanent staff recruitment exercise.

Qualified Nigerians can apply for positions across Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12.

The application window opened on Monday, July 20, and will close on Monday, July 27, 2026. INEC said the exercise would strengthen its workforce in electoral administration, voter registration, data management, election logistics and other essential operations.

Applications must be completed online through INEC’s official recruitment portal. The commission does not accept applications submitted through email, physical offices, recruitment agents or third-party websites.

Available positions

INEC grouped the vacancies into three employment categories.

Professional Cadre

The Professional Cadre covers Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12.

Available roles include:

Accountant

Clinical Officer

Lawyer

ICT Officer

Engineer

Quantity Surveyor

Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in the relevant field from a recognised institution.

They may also need professional certifications from organisations such as the Nigerian Bar Association, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria or Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria.

Candidates must have at least two years of relevant post-qualification experience and an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.

They must also demonstrate practical knowledge of their profession, good communication and analytical skills, problem-solving ability and proficiency in digital tools.

Administrative Officer II

The Administrative Officer II position is for Registration Area Officers on Grade Level 08.

Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma or an equivalent qualification in the sciences, social sciences or humanities.

Candidates must also have at least two years of relevant experience in administration, records management, electoral operations or a related area.

Other requirements include an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, knowledge of data management and record keeping, strong organisational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and other digital tools.

Executive Officer

The Executive Officer position is on Grade Level 07.

Applicants must possess a National Certificate in Education or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.

Candidates should understand basic computer operations and data handling. They must also possess good communication and organisational skills and be able to work under supervision within assigned registration areas.

General requirements

Applicants must be Nigerian citizens and possess a valid National Identification Number.

They must be at least 18 years old and not older than 35 at the time of application.

Candidates must present a valid certificate of state of origin signed by the chairman or secretary of their local government. Certificates signed by liaison officers will not be accepted.

Applicants must also be physically and mentally fit, possess good character and have no criminal conviction.

They must be willing to work in any part of Nigeria and demonstrate integrity, discipline and commitment to public service.

Documents required for the application

Applicants should prepare a recent passport photograph and a valid means of identification.

They may also need to upload their birth certificate or declaration of age, O’Level result, educational certificates, certificate of state of origin and NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate where applicable.

Professional applicants should also upload the licences or certifications required for their chosen positions.

All information and documents must be accurate. INEC warned that false information or forged credentials could lead to disqualification and possible prosecution.

How to apply for INEC recruitment

Applicants should begin by visiting the official INEC recruitment portal and creating an account.

The registration process requires a valid email address, telephone number and 11-digit National Identification Number.

Applicants must also provide their state of origin, local government area and state of residence.

After creating the account, candidates should verify their email address and sign in to continue the application.

They can then select the appropriate cadre, complete the online form and upload the required documents.

Applicants should carefully review all information before submitting the form. INEC allows candidates to edit their details before submission, but changes may not be possible after the application has been submitted and the portal has closed.

Application is free

INEC said it does not charge application, registration or processing fees.

Applicants should not pay individuals who claim they can secure employment with the commission.

Only one application is permitted. Candidates who submit applications for multiple positions may have all their entries disqualified.

INEC said only shortlisted applicants would be contacted for the next stage of the recruitment process.

The application deadline is Monday, July 27, 2026.
