INEC Sets Date for 2027 Presidential Election

Nigeria’s next presidential election will hold on Saturday, 20 February 2027, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced.

The announcement was made in Abuja during a press briefing where INEC unveiled its election timetable and formally signalled the start of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, delivered the update and said the commission is moving early so voters, political parties, and security agencies can plan properly.

What INEC announced

INigeria now has an official date for the presidential and National Assembly elections in 2027. Alongside that, INEC also fixed Saturday, 6 March 2027 for the governorship and state houses of assembly elections.

In plain terms, INEC is telling the country: the countdown has started, and the process will follow a clear schedule instead of last-minute rush.
