JAPA: 430,000 Nigerians Receive UK Visas in 7 Months

Dr Richard Montgomery, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, announced that the United Kingdom has issued around 430,000 visas to Nigerians from January to July 2024.

These visas are for education and relocation. He shared this information during a meeting with Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, in Abuja.

Safety Measures for Nigerians in the UK

Montgomery assured that the UK continues to be a safe place for its diverse population despite global unrest. He mentioned the creation of 60 special courts to handle crimes related to the unrest and the arrest of 400 individuals linked to these activities.

This reflects the UK’s commitment to public safety and legal action against those spreading hate and false information.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa confirmed that there have been no casualties among Nigerians in the UK due to the unrest. She noted that the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission stays connected with the Nigerian High Commission in London and other diaspora groups, which have reported no problems involving Nigerian nationals.

She said NIDCOM “is in touch with the Nigerian High Commission in London and other diaspora groups, none of which have reported any incidents involving Nigerian nationals”.

Dabiri-Erewa commended the quick actions of the UK government, including making arrests. She advised Nigerians in the UK to stay alert and safe and to follow the travel advice from Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
