Kaduna Terrorists Strike, Abducting 87 in Night Raid on Community
In a horrifying display of terror, Kaduna State’s Kajuru Station community fell victim to a ruthless attack by terrorists, resulting in the abduction of 87 innocent civilians, including women and children. The peaceful community was thrust into chaos and fear on Sunday night as terrorists stormed the area, leaving a trail of despair and uncertainty.
The aftermath of the attack saw residents of the Kaduna community grappling with the fear of further terrorist onslaughts, prompting many to flee their homes in search of safety. Kajuru, a region already scarred by previous terrorist attacks, found itself once again in the grip of violence, with some locals still held captive from earlier incidents.
Harisu Dari, representing the Kaduna Kajuru-Station Youths, recounted the terrifying ordeal, revealing that the terrorists’ rampage began around 10 pm, with the invaders looting shops for food and essentials. The Kaduna community has yet to establish contact with the 87 individuals abducted by the terrorists, and the absence of security forces has left the residents feeling vulnerable and abandoned.
“The villagers are traumatised by the sad development. The government needs to re-strategise in tackling these terrorists,” Dari emphasised.
The relentless wave of kidnappings has cast a shadow over Kaduna, with a notable incident on March 7 when terrorists abducted over 200 pupils and staff from LEA Primary School in Chikun Local Government Area. The terrorists demanded an exorbitant ransom of N1 billion for the students’ release, further exacerbating the crisis in Kaduna.
In response to the escalating terrorist activities, the Kaduna Police Command has intensified its efforts, resulting in the arrest of a suspect linked to the kidnappings and the seizure of various weapons.
Amidst the turmoil, controversial Islamic cleric Sheik Ahmad Gumi has criticised the government’s heavy-handed approach to resolving the terrorist crisis in Kaduna. He advocates for a more compassionate strategy that offers the terrorists better living conditions, akin to the Niger Delta amnesty programme, to encourage them to renounce violence.
As the Kaduna community reels from the latest terrorist attack, the urgent need for a revised strategy to combat the menace becomes increasingly apparent.
