Kano Anti-Drug Task Force Arrests Fleeing Suspect in Rivers State

The Kano State anti-drug task force has apprehended a suspect in Rivers State who was attempting to evade justice. Ishaq Lawan Ibrahim, popularly known as “Malam Keya,” was taken into custody and has since been extradited to Kano to face criminal prosecution.

Muhuyi Magaji, the Chairman of the Task Force, confirmed the development on Thursday. He stated that the arrest of the suspect was a result of coordinated efforts to track individuals fleeing the law in Kano. Ibrahim is expected to face charges related to drug-related offences upon his return to the state.

The successful operation, which involved tracking the suspect across state lines, demonstrates the increasing mobility of drug-related offenders in Nigeria. According to reports on the arrest of the fleeing suspect in Rivers State, the task force’s intelligence-led pursuit was instrumental in locating Ibrahim in the South-South region.

Inter-state enforcement and legal proceedings

The arrest of Ibrahim follows a period of heightened scrutiny by the Kano anti-drug task force, which has been actively working to dismantle narcotics distribution networks within the state. The ability of the task force to conduct operations far outside its immediate jurisdiction signals a growing capacity for inter-state law enforcement coordination.

Authorities have noted that suspects often attempt to relocate to different geopolitical zones to escape the reach of local agencies. However, the task force has maintained that such movements will not provide long-term protection from the law. The case involving “Malam Keya” serves as a warning to others involved in illicit drug trades that the task force is capable of long-range tracking and apprehension.

The suspect is currently in the custody of the task force and is awaiting formal arraignment in a Kano court. Officials have indicated that the investigation is ongoing to determine whether Ibrahim’s activities were part of a larger syndicate operating between the Northern and Southern regions of the country. The legal process will determine the full extent of his involvement in drug-related crimes.
