Police have arrested two suspects following the murder of a popular Kano-based social media influencer at his residence.
The victim, Mr. Khalil, widely recognised by his online moniker ‘Danshagamu’, was killed by hoodlums on Monday. The attack, which took place inside his home, has caused significant distress among his followers and residents of Kano State. The sudden nature of the violence has left many questioning how such a breach could occur in a residential area.
The arrest of two suspects follows an immediate investigation by law enforcement into the circumstances of the killing.
Danshagamu had established a notable presence on social media platforms, where he used his digital footprint to engage a wide audience, particularly the youth demographic in Northern Nigeria. In the current Nigerian digital landscape, social media influencers have become significant figures in shaping public discourse and community trends. Consequently, the violent death of a prominent creator has drawn widespread condemnation from both online communities and local residents.
The incident has also intensified calls for improved security measures in Kano. The attack has raised urgent questions regarding the safety of public figures and the security of private residences. Many residents have expressed growing concern over the increasing brazenness of criminal elements, or hoodlums, who are increasingly targeting homes in both urban and semi-urban areas. This pattern of home invasions is contributing to a sense of vulnerability among citizens across the state.
While the police are still working to determine the exact motive behind the attack, investigators are looking into several possibilities, including whether the killing was a targeted assassination or a robbery gone wrong. The ability of the perpetrators to enter the victim’s residence and carry out the attack has placed additional pressure on local security agencies to tighten patrols and enhance residential surveillance.
At the time of writing, the two suspects remain in police custody. They are expected to face formal charges once the ongoing interrogation and forensic evidence collection are completed. The Kano State Police Command has not yet released the identities of the suspects or a detailed timeline of the investigation’s progress. Authorities have indicated that further updates will be provided as the case moves toward the judicial stage.
