Kebbi Senator Says He Knows Where the Missing Schoolgirls Are

The search for the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, has taken a new turn as Senator Garba Maidoki of Kebbi South says he is confident the students will be rescued soon.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Maidoki revealed that security intelligence suggests the girls are still within Kebbi South. According to him, the abductors have not left the area, and this gives security agencies a clearer focus for their operations.

“We have a fair idea where the girls are,” the senator said, adding that there is “high hope” the students could return home within a day or two.

The attack on the school, which also led to the killing of the vice principal, has left the community shaken. Maidoki described it as the most painful moment of his political life. He recalled how distant the 2014 Chibok abductions once felt, until this tragedy landed “right in the middle” of his own constituency.

Shortly after the incident, the senator visited Maga to meet with families of the missing girls. He said the visit was to console them and reassure them that security agencies were working round the clock to bring the children back safely.

Maidoki also stressed that improving security was one of his major campaign promises, and he intends to work closely with both federal and state authorities to ensure the rescue mission succeeds. His confidence remained strong: “This will not be like the Chibok girls. They will come back home.”

The abduction, which happened on Monday, adds to growing concerns about the resurgence of school kidnappings in Nigeria. Over a decade after Boko Haram kidnapped 276 Chibok schoolgirls in 2014 with more than 90 still missing the country continues to battle threats to student safety, especially in rural communities.
