The Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) is supporting approximately 200 gas infrastructure projects across Nigeria to unlock the country’s 200 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves.
Oluwole Adama, the Executive Director of the MDGIF, disclosed the scale of the Fund’s current support, noting that the initiative is part of a wider strategic effort to ensure Nigeria effectively monetizes its vast natural gas wealth.
The projects are distributed nationwide, targeting critical midstream and downstream infrastructure gaps that have historically hindered the full utilization of the reserves. By backing these 200 projects, the MDGIF aims to create the necessary pathways for gas to move from production sites to industrial and domestic consumers.
This push comes as Nigeria accelerates its race to unlock the 200 trillion cubic feet of gas, which is seen as a pivotal component of the nation’s energy transition and economic growth strategy. The focus remains on building the infrastructure required to transform these reserves into usable energy for power generation and industrial feedstock.
Further details regarding the specific funding amounts for each project or the timeline for completion were not immediately disclosed.
