Microsoft in Negotiations to Buy TikTok – Trump
Microsoft is currently in discussions to purchase the popular video-sharing app TikTok, according to U.S. President Donald Trump. The app’s future in the United States has been hanging in the balance due to legal and security concerns tied to its Chinese ownership.
TikTok, owned by ByteDance, a Chinese tech company, has faced pressure to sell its U.S. operations after the U.S. government raised concerns about data security and the possibility of spying. A law was introduced that required ByteDance to either sell TikTok to a U.S. company or face a ban in the country.
When asked on Monday about Microsoft’s interest in TikTok, President Trump confirmed, saying, “I would say yes. There’s a lot of interest in TikTok; there’s great interest in TikTok.” He also hinted that a competitive bidding process could be a good outcome.
Earlier, the ban on TikTok had been delayed by Trump to allow for negotiations with China. The app briefly shut down in the U.S. as the deadline approached, but later resumed operations. TikTok credited Trump for stepping in to pause the ban and create space for a potential solution.
The uncertainty around TikTok has sparked a mix of reactions in the U.S., with some concerned about data security while others see the app as a creative platform for millions of users. Microsoft’s potential purchase could mark a turning point, offering a way to address security concerns while keeping the app available to its American audience.
For now, TikTok’s fate remains undecided, but the outcome of these negotiations could define the app’s future in one of its largest markets.
