Nigeria Gets $52 Million Back from Diezani Alison-Madueke’s loot

The United States has given back $52.88 million to Nigeria. This money was taken illegally by Nigeria’s former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, during the time Goodluck Jonathan was president.

The announcement came from Lateef Fagbemi, Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, during a ceremony in Abuja where the US and Nigeria signed an agreement about the money.

Fagbemi said that $50 million of this money will go through the World Bank to help bring electricity to rural areas in Nigeria.

The other $2 million will be used to help make Nigeria’s court system better and fight corruption.

The US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, said it’s important that this money is used carefully to really help the people of Nigeria.

This return of money is part of a bigger effort by both Nigeria and the US to stop corruption and improve Nigeria’s economy.
