Nollywood Actor Alex Ekubo Dies After Battle with Cancer

Ace Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo is dead.

According to talent manager and filmmaker Sam Olatunji, Ekubo, 40, passed away at a Lagos hospital on Tuesday after a long battle with cancer.

The actor, whose work across more than 100 films made him one of the most sought-after actors in Nigerian cinema, has been out of the public eye for a while.

Neither his family nor his management had issued an official statement at the time of filing this report.

His last post on social media was in December 2024, shortly after his marriage engagement was called off. A clip that surfaced in May 2025, showing him noticeably slimmer in conversation with a group of children, drew waves of concerned commentary from fans and colleagues; he never addressed the speculation on the record.
