Nollywood’s cinematic landscape has reached a new peak with the release of Tòkunbò, a film directed by the renowned Ramsey Nouah. 

This crime thriller has quickly claimed a spot in the Top 5 on Netflix in an impressive 183 countries, showcasing its global appeal and contributing significantly to the Nigerian film industry’s international prominence.

Flix Patrol, which tracks streaming ratings worldwide, notes that Tòkunbò has achieved remarkable rankings in several key markets, including Argentina and Brazil, illustrating the expansive influence of Nollywood on the global entertainment arena. 

Despite a modest reception on IMDb, the film’s widespread viewer engagement highlights a disconnect between critical reviews and audience interest.

Released on August 23, 2024, the film was produced by Chris Odeh and features an ensemble cast including Gideon Okeke, Chidi Mokeme, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, and Norbert Young. Tòkunbò represents Nouah’s third directorial venture, following his seamless transition from actor to director, and continues his trend of delivering impactful cinematic experiences.

The production, with a budget exceeding $200,000, reflects the ambitious scope and scale of this project, despite facing several logistical hurdles during its creation.
