NSC Director General reshuffles national sports federation secretaries

The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has announced a reshuffle of the General Secretaries across Nigeria’s national sports federations.

The decision was made during a strategic meeting with the administrative heads of the various sports federations held in Abuja. The move is intended to restructure the leadership of the administrative wings of these bodies, which are responsible for the day-to-day management of sporting activities in the country.

The reshuffle follows recent directives from the NSC to improve administrative efficiency and ensure that the federations align more closely with the commission’s current governance standards.

Administrative restructuring in Nigerian sports

The role of a General Secretary within a sports federation is central to its functionality. These officials manage the administrative framework, coordinate with the NSC for funding, oversee athlete registrations, and organise international participation. By reorganising these positions, the NSC aims to address operational challenges within the sporting ecosystem.

The reshuffle announced by the NSC comes at a time when the commission is looking to tighten oversight of federation operations. Previous administrative hurdles have often led to delays in training preparations and issues regarding the management of resources, challenges that the current leadership is attempting to mitigate through personnel changes.

While the specific names of all the incoming and outgoing secretaries have not been widely published, the meeting in Abuja served as the formal platform for communicating these changes to the stakeholders. The NSC is expected to issue formal letters of appointment or reassignment to the concerned officials to facilitate the transition.

This administrative shift is expected to impact several sports disciplines, as the new secretaries take over the management of their respective federations. The focus remains on whether these changes will translate into improved coordination for upcoming national and international sporting events.

Affected federations are now required to initiate handover processes to ensure that ongoing programmes and scheduled competitions are not disrupted by the transition of leadership.
