Okpebholo Appoints Mercy Johnson as Special Adviser

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Nollywood star Mercy Johnson Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy, a move that signals the administration’s push to strengthen public communication and citizen connection with government activities.

The appointment was announced in a statement signed by Musa Ikhilor, the Secretary to the State Government, and issued in Benin.

Mercy Johnson Okojie, known for her long-running career in Nigeria’s film industry, is being presented by the government as more than a celebrity pick. The statement describes her as an actress, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, pointing to her wide public visibility and strong grassroots reach.

The announcement also highlights her advocacy and humanitarian profile, referencing her work through the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, which supports causes such as women empowerment, child welfare, education support, and healthcare outreach.

In her new role, the government said she is expected to use her public influence, communication strength, and community presence to improve how residents engage with Edo State policies and programmes, helping the administration connect its message more directly to the people.
