Okpebholo urges Edo residents to support Tinubu’s re-election

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has called on residents of the state to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, asserting that the administration’s ongoing reforms are producing positive outcomes.

The Governor made this appeal on Wednesday during a visit to the Ojuromi of Uromi, HRH Zaiki Anselm Aidenojie II, at the traditional ruler’s palace in Esan Northeast Local Government Area.

During the visit, Okpebholo maintained that the economic and structural changes being implemented by the federal government are essential for the country’s progress. He argued that these reforms are already yielding results and requested the cooperation of the electorate to ensure the administration’s continuity.

The Governor expressed these views during his engagement with the traditional ruler in Uromi, where he sought to align local interests with the federal government’s developmental agenda.

Strategic engagement with traditional institutions

The visit to the Esan Northeast region is seen by political observers as a move to consolidate support within the Esan ethnic nationality, which remains a significant voting bloc in Edo State politics. In the Nigerian political landscape, traditional rulers often serve as crucial intermediaries between the government and their communities, particularly during election cycles.

By visiting the palace of HRH Zaiki Anselm Aidenojie II, Okpebholo is attempting to leverage the influence of traditional institutions to drum up grassroots support for the President. The Governor’s emphasis on the success of federal reforms suggests a desire to showcase the benefits of political synergy between the state and the presidency.

While the Governor did not provide a specific breakdown of the particular reforms he referred to, his comments align with the federal government’s ongoing efforts to restructure the national economy. The political implications of this visit are expected to grow as the next electoral cycle approaches, with the state government positioning itself behind the current administration’s policy direction.

The palace of the Ojuromi of Uromi has not issued a formal statement regarding the specific details of the Governor’s plea or the extent of the discussions held during the visit.
