Oyo State, UNICEF partner to launch digital learning programme

Oyo State has partnered with UNICEF to launch the NLP, a digital learning initiative designed to integrate modern technology into the state’s educational framework.

The Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Hon. Segun Olayiwola, announced the commencement of the programme, noting that it is intended to equip students with the necessary skills for a technology-driven economy.

During the launch, Olayiwola stated that the initiative aligns with the administration’s agenda to leave no child behind, ensuring that students in both urban and rural areas have access to digital tools.

The NLP is expected to provide students with access to digital tools and resources that facilitate more interactive learning experiences. By partnering with UNICEF, the Oyo State government aims to leverage international expertise to bridge the digital divide that often separates students in urban centres from those in more remote communities.

The programme focuses on more than just hardware; it includes training educators to use digital platforms to enhance teaching methodologies. This ensures that teachers are prepared to guide students through a curriculum that incorporates computer literacy and digital problem-solving.

This development follows ongoing efforts by the Oyo State government to reform the education sector through investments in school infrastructure and teacher development. As Nigeria pursues a more robust digital economy, the ability of students to navigate digital environments has become a central component of state and national development strategies.

The implementation of the NLP will involve phased rollouts across various local government areas to monitor progress and address technical requirements. The state government is expected to provide details on the distribution of digital learning materials and the schedule for teacher training sessions in the coming months.
