Patoranking Builds Lagos Stadium While His State Has No Football Team
Nigerian singer, Patrick Okorie, better known as Patoranking, has constructed a mini football stadium in Ebute Metta, Lagos, the neighborhood where he spent his early years.
The dancehall star unveiled the new facility through a video shared on his social media platforms last Saturday, showcasing the stadium as a token of his gratitude and a means to unite the local community.
Patoranking stated in his post, “God blessed me and I blessed my people. I built this from a place of love to unite my community in Ebute Metta. This is just the first of many. World best.”
While the artist’s intentions appear heartfelt, aiming to give back to the community that shaped his youth, the project has sparked some debate online.
Critics are questioning Patoranking’s decision to invest in Lagos, a city already rich in resources and infrastructures, while his home state, which has roots in Onicha, Ebonyi, lacks a football team competing in any division of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The choice to build a sports facility in a state that already enjoys considerable investment has left some fans and observers puzzled. On social media, comments range from praise for his philanthropic efforts to pointed questions about the logic behind his investment decisions.
“Building a mini football stadium in Lagos while his home state has no competing football team—what a choice of investment,” remarked one user, echoing a sentiment felt by several others.
