Purp Becomes Third Female to Win Nigerian Idol

After 12 intense weeks of music, emotion, and pure talent, Nigerian Idol Season 10 has crowned its newest winner, Purp, a 25-year-old singer whose voice and spirit carried her all the way to the top.

Born Anu Agosa, she made history on Sunday night as the third woman ever to win the competition and the first in six years.

The season finale, broadcast live, was more than just a result announcement. It was a celebration of everything the show has stood for over the past decade: raw talent, perseverance, and unforgettable performances.

From the start, Purp stood out with her soulful delivery and powerful stage presence. But it was her final performance, a commanding take on Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” that sealed the deal.

Facing off against Raymu, another strong finalist, the finale became a showdown that kept the audience on edge. Raymu had earlier wowed the crowd with an emotional version of “Titanium” by David Guetta and Sia, but it was Purp who won the nation’s vote.

A Night of High Notes and High Emotions

The finale was a star-studded event hosted by longtime compere IK Osakioduwa, who didn’t just anchor the show but even joined in the fun with his own surprising performance of Jerusalema.

The evening featured a mix of music, memories, and milestones including a tribute to the past seasons with appearances from former contestants like Praise (Bigi Idol winner), Precious Mac, and Season 9 champ Chima.

Omawumi lit up the stage with her new single “In Love,” while Ric Hassani added sweetness to the event literally by handing out cupcakes to the live audience to mark the 10th season celebration.

Purp broke a six-year streak

Purp’s win is more than personal, it’s symbolic. She breaks a long streak of male winners, becoming the first woman to take the crown since Season 4. It’s a significant moment for the show’s history and for young women dreaming of making it big in Nigeria’s music industry.

With her win, Purp takes home a massive prize package: ₦30 million in cash, a brand-new SUV, a DStv Explora with a one-year Premium subscription, and, perhaps most importantly, a recording deal that could kick-start her music career.

What’s next for Purp?

Of course, all eyes will be on what she does next. Nigerian Idol has helped launch the careers of several stars, and Purp now has the chance to join those ranks.

For fans who want to relive the magic, the finale and full season are available to stream on GOtv, DStv Stream, and Showmax. And as part of a promotional boost, subscribers who reconnect or upgrade before July 31 can enjoy a free bouquet upgrade through the ongoing “We Got You” campaign.

From breakout star to Idol champion, Purp’s journey has just begun. And if her performances are anything to go by, she’s not slowing down anytime soon.
