RCCG Hires KPMG to Audit Controversial Ikoyi Parish, City of David
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has taken decisive steps by hiring the prominent audit firm KPMG to conduct a thorough examination of its City of David parish in Lagos, Nigeria. It is no news that there were allegations involving a substantial debt of N320 million linked to the parish.
Pastor Charles Kpandei, who recently assumed leadership of the City of David parish following the suspension of the former pastor, Idowu Iluyomade, is at the center of these developments. Upon taking over, Pastor Kpandei addressed the congregation, emphasizing unity and commitment to the church’s mission.

The financial scrutiny intensified shortly after Pastor Iluyomade’s suspension on June 1, 2024. The suspension arose from a series of complaints concerning financial mismanagement and the pastor’s reluctance to accept a transfer away from the parish. In response to these serious concerns, RCCG’s Governing Council decided that an external audit was necessary, leading to the engagement of KPMG.
During a recent church service, it was revealed that the parish had incurred an outstanding debt of N320 million. This information was shared with the congregation through a financial sheet displayed during the service, highlighting the urgent need for transparency and accountability.
The audit by KPMG is not a routine procedure within RCCG, as the church usually relies on its internal auditors for financial checks. However, the severity of the allegations and the substantial amount involved necessitated an independent review.
How Pastor Iluyomade’s scrutiny started
Pastor Iluyomade, who has also served as the Special Assistant to the RCCG General Overseer on Christian Social Responsibility, has been a prominent figure in the church.
His leadership came under scrutiny following lavish celebrations and significant financial transactions that coincided with the passing of a key church member and CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe.

The ongoing audit and leadership changes at the City of David parish mark a critical moment for RCCG as it seeks to uphold its integrity and ensure responsible stewardship of its resources.
The findings from KPMG’s audit are eagerly awaited by church members and the broader community, as they will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the parish and potentially, the larger organization.
