The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has issued a fresh four-week ultimatum to the Federal Government over unresolved welfare issues affecting its members.
The association said the decision followed an Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting held virtually on Saturday, where members reviewed the government’s handling of pending agreements.
In a communiqué released on Sunday, NARD accused the Federal Government and some health institutions of failing to address long-standing concerns, including unpaid allowances, salary arrears and the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund.
The doctors said they could no longer continue to endure delays in the payment of salaries and welfare benefits, warning that the situation had placed unnecessary hardship on medical workers across the country.\
NARD also raised concern over the non-payment of the 25 and 35 percent CONMESS salary review arrears, as well as 19 months of outstanding Professional Allowance arrears.
The association warned that failure to resolve the issues within the four week window could force resident doctors to begin another round of industrial action.
The development raises fresh concerns for Nigeria’s health sector, which has faced repeated disruptions due to disputes between medical workers and the government over pay, working conditions and funding.
