Resident Doctors Start Nationwide Warning Strike
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has initiated a nationwide seven-day warning strike. Dr. Dele Abdullahi, NARD President, announced on Sunday that the strike would start at midnight on Monday, August 26, 2024.
Dr. Abdullahi revealed that they made this decision during the Emergency National Executive Council meeting. “The strike is starting at midnight today. It will last for seven days, serving as a warning strike, and it will be comprehensive,” he stated.
Reason For The Protest
The strike is a protest against the abduction of Dr Ganiyat Popoola, a registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna, along with her husband and nephew on December 27, 2023. While her husband was released in March, Dr. Popoola and her nephew remain in captivity.
