Something Special for Students of Wigwe University Art College

Wigwe University, Isiokpo, Rivers, will open shop by September. And those who really want to invest in education will get the real deal. The minimum fee, in the college of art, will go for N8 million. That’s the least they can get. For the colleges of engineering, computer science, and management, the stakes rise: N9.9 million each.

The total package, minus accommodation, for the college of art stands at N9.6 million. According to the information on the varsity’s website, other colleges charge N11.9 million each.

“We understand that an investment in education will always yield the best returns, which is why we are committed to providing accessible pathways to knowledge,” the school added.

Students therefore have options: a Students Loans Scheme from Access Bank;  and two installment Payment Per Session plan.

Nigeria has a student loan policy, too. But students of Wigwe University and other private ones don’t stand a chance.

Apart from believing pricey education can come handy for Nigerians, WU also considers the essence of a nice crib for its students. Students can choose any of the four grades of accommodation: the luxury single bedroom; the premium one en-suite bedroom; the classic 1 plan; and the classic 2 plan. They go for N1 million, N3.8 million, N3.7 million, and N3.5 million respectively. Students must plonk down the rent once, in full.

The late Access Bank CEO and WU founder Herbert Wigwe had a vision when he founded the university. And the vision, in a successful banker’s thinking, focuses on igniting Africa’s potential for prosperity primarily. He also wanted to nurture responsible fearless leaders. The vision also included making WU the leading university in Africa.

None of these elements of Wigwe’s vision have lost its sparkle.

“We assure our stakeholders including prospective students, faculty and staff that Wigwe University remains committed to ensuring that his dreams and aspirations for the university are fulfilled,” the school board said after his death.

Wigwe died in a chopper mishap in the US in February.
