Sophia Momodu is Extorting Me – Davido, Drags Baby Mama to Court

Afrobeats star David ‘Davido’ Adeleke, has filed a lawsuit at the Lagos State High Court against Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child, Imade, requesting joint custody of the child.

In the suit, Davido accused Sophia of making unreasonable financial demands from him in the name of child support, despite abundantly fulfilling his fatherly duties towards their daughter.

Davido’s efforts to support Imade

Davido explained in a 44-paragraph statement that he has always paid for Imade’s school fees and provided money for the apartment where Sophia and Imade live.

According to him, he even bought a N200 million apartment in a gated community in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, with a swimming pool and 24-hour power and water, so Sophia and Imade can be comfortable.

However, Sophia refused to move there and instead asked Davido to continue paying N5 million annually for another rented place.

Davido also said he provided a Range Rover SUV for Sophia and Imade’s transportation. When the vehicle broke down, and Imade missed two weeks of school, Davido gave them another SUV.

“That sequel to the information about the said condition of the vehicle, I provided another vehicle, Highlander SUV, and in addition, the sum of N5.8m as requested by her for the repair of the Range Rover SUV, making it two vehicles in the custody and use of the respondent and our daughter,” recounted in the suit, marked LD/1587PMC/2024.

Despite this, he said Sophia wanted him to pay exuberant fees for a new nanny she hired.

Davido said:  “The respondent, among others, is demanding that I should pay the nanny she hired the sum of $800 per month, and that the total sum of $19,600 per annum be paid as a lump sum.”

Davido wants custody or unrestricted access

Davido’s main goal is to be more involved in Imade’s life. He asked the court to grant him joint custody or, at the very least, unrestricted access to his daughter.

Davido feels that despite his efforts to support Imade, Sophia’s demands are making it hard for him to be a part of his daughter’s life.

In 2021, Sophia had written on her Instagram story that she was upset that Imade took Davido’s last name instead of hers. 

She wrote, “I remember my mom and aunties laughing at me when I was crying because my daughter’s last name wasn’t going to be Momodu.

“I was genuinely distraught. I was even arguing and everything, that they put her father’s full name and not a single letter from mine.”
