Taraba State Launches Tetanus and Diphtheria Vaccination for Women

The Taraba State government has officially commenced a targeted vaccination campaign against tetanus and diphtheria, aimed at protecting women of childbearing age across the region.

Announcing the rollout of the immunisation exercise, state health authorities confirmed that the medical intervention is specifically designed for females between the ages of 15 and 49. The campaign forms part of broader public health measures to curtail vaccine-preventable outbreaks and safeguard maternal health in the North-East state.

Mr Nyigwa urged eligible residents to fully utilise the opportunity provided by the state health ministry, noting that broad participation is essential to achieving herd immunity and protecting vulnerable populations from severe complications.

The exercise comes on the heels of renewed nationwide efforts by health agencies to tackle resurgent bacterial infections, particularly diphtheria and tetanus, which have posed severe public health challenges in various parts of Nigeria over recent years.

State medical personnel have been deployed to primary healthcare centres, designated community posts, and mobile outreach units to administer the doses. Local health workers are also collaborating with community leaders and traditional rulers to raise awareness and ensure maximum turnout across urban and rural settlements.

Residents seeking to receive the vaccine can visit their nearest government-approved health facility to participate in the ongoing campaign.
