TECNO has unveiled the CAMON Slim, an ultra-slim smartphone measuring 6.39mm, at the IFA 2026 trade show in Berlin. The device focuses on a blend of aesthetics and artificial intelligence, targeting users who prioritise slim design without sacrificing camera performance.
The new model features a 3D-curved unibody design and a 50MP Sony LYTIA 600 Ultra Night Camera. This hardware combination aims to maintain high-end photographic capabilities within a significantly reduced chassis, addressing the common industry challenge of balancing thinness with optical hardware requirements.
Beyond its physical dimensions, the device integrates a series of practical AI features and a dedicated AI mood lighting system. These additions follow the official showcase of the CAMON Slim at the Berlin event, where the company positioned the phone as a potential blueprint for future smartphone design.
Hardware Specifications and AI Integration
The integration of the Sony LYTIA 600 sensor is a central feature of the CAMON Slim. The LYTIA series is designed for enhanced light sensitivity, which TECNO has utilised to brand the system as an “Ultra Night Camera.” This allows for clearer images in low-light environments, a key selling point for the CAMON series which has historically focused on portraiture and night photography.
The AI mood lighting system adds a layer of customisation to the device’s exterior, allowing the phone to change visual cues based on user settings or notifications. This is paired with “practical AI features” intended to streamline daily tasks and improve the user interface efficiency.
The move towards a 6.39mm profile places TECNO in direct competition with other manufacturers attempting to reduce the bulk of modern smartphones. However, such slim designs often necessitate engineering trade-offs regarding battery capacity and thermal management, areas where the 3D-curved unibody design is intended to provide structural support.
TECNO, a subsidiary of Transsion Holdings, has seen significant growth across African markets, including Nigeria, by diversifying its portfolio from budget-friendly devices to mid-range and premium segments. The CAMON series specifically targets a younger, tech-savvy demographic that values social media-ready photography and modern aesthetics.
The company has not yet released specific pricing or a definitive launch date for the African market. Potential buyers in Nigeria and other regions are awaiting confirmation on regional availability and local pricing structures.
