Scientology

Scientology was created by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard in 1953. Its core belief is that humans are immortal spiritual beings called “thetans” who have lived many past lives. 

The religion offers techniques to help people clear their minds of past traumas and achieve greater self-awareness and happiness. Scientologists aim to reach a higher level of consciousness, which they believe leads to true freedom. Over the years, Scientology has gained a following in many countries, particularly in the U.S., where it has attracted several high-profile celebrities.

Falun Gong

Falun Gong, also called Falun Dafa, was founded by Li Hongzhi in the early 1990s in China. This spiritual practice combines meditation, exercises, and teachings centered around truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. 

Although not exactly a religion, many of its followers treat it as a spiritual practice aimed at improving their physical and mental well-being. Falun Gong became widely popular in China until it was banned by the government in 1999. Despite the ban, it still has millions of followers worldwide who continue to practice its teachings.

Raelism

Founded by Claude Vorilhon, who later became known as Rael, in 1974, Raelism teaches that life on Earth was created by extraterrestrial beings called the Elohim. Raelists believe these advanced beings visited Earth thousands of years ago and influenced human development. 

Raelism promotes global peace, democracy, and scientific progress, with followers supporting ideas like cloning to enhance human life. While it may seem far-fetched, Raelism has gained a notable number of believers, fascinated by its blend of science and spirituality.

Jediism

Inspired by the Jedi characters from the Star Wars movies, Jediism emerged as a spiritual path in the early 2000s. Although the Jedi in Star Wars are fictional, Jediism is treated seriously by its followers. 

It teaches the values of self-discipline, mindfulness, and inner peace. Jediists follow the Jedi Code, which promotes wisdom, harmony, and balance with the world. While some view Jediism more as a philosophy than a religion, it has drawn a considerable number of followers around the globe, especially among Star Wars fans seeking a deeper connection to the ideals represented in the films.

Pastafarianism

Pastafarianism, or the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, started as a parody religion in 2005. Bobby Henderson created it as a humorous response to the debate over whether schools should teach intelligent design alongside evolution. 

Pastafarians believe in a deity called the Flying Spaghetti Monster and argue, with a playful tone, that if one religious theory can be taught, then theirs should be too. Although it was initially intended as satire, Pastafarianism has sparked discussions about religious freedom and the separation of religion and education.
