Tigran Gambaryan, other Cryptocurrency Bosses Serving Jail Time Around the World
Binance Nigeria executive Tigran Gambaryan is kicking his heels in a Nigerian jail now. His boss Changpeng Zhao, too, in the US.
Since its tee-off in 2017, Binance Holdings Ltd has been swimming in controversies. From its birthplace in China to its foray in Japan, and its hideout in Malta, Jersey, and a number of other countries.
Now the company has no known headquarters. And many of its executives are managing the $12-billion virtual company on the fly. Lawsuits in 14 countries, including the US, the UK, Canada, France, and Nigeria, have grounded some of them.
Like Zhao.
He’s just got his orange jumpsuit in the US. A district court found the 47-year-old guilty of breaking the US anti-money laundering law, and sentenced him to four months. The estimate of the amount laundered stood at $10 billion.

There are other allegations, but Binance has agreed to settle them with $4.3 billion. Zhao himself is worth $33 billion.
Gambaryan—and his fugitive co-executive Nadeem Anjarwalla whom Kenya just pinned down for Nigeria—might face money laundering charges, too. About $26 billion in10 years.
