Google

Created in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who were studying at Stanford University, Google is now the most used search engine globally. It works well on all devices like computers, phones, and tablets. About 79% of people use Google on their computers and 94% on their phones.

Bing

Bing is made by Microsoft and started in 2009. Before Bing, Microsoft had other search engines like Live Search and MSN Search. Today, Bing is the 17th most visited website in the world.

Yahoo

Yahoo started in January 1994 by two Stanford students, Jerry Yang and David Filo. It’s known for search and email services. Yahoo has used both Bing and Google in the past to show search results, but now it mainly uses Bing.

Baidu

Baidu began in January 2000, started by Robin Li and Eric Xu. It’s the biggest search engine in China, based in Beijing. Baidu is the 15th most visited website globally and gets billions of searches every month.

Yandex

Yandex, started in 1997 in Russia by Arkady Volozh and Ilya Segalovich, is the top search engine in Russia. “Yandex” means “Yet Another Indexer.” It also offers services like Yandex Maps.

DuckDuckGo

Gabriel Weinberg founded DuckDuckGo in 2008 in Pennsylvania, USA. It’s known for keeping users’ searches private. Unlike Google, DuckDuckGo gets its search results from other search engines like Bing and Yahoo.
