Top 10 States with the Highest Diesel Prices in Nigeria in May 2024
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has announced a significant increase in the price of diesel across Nigeria.
The latest Diesel Price Watch Report shows that the average price for a litre of diesel in April was N1,415.06.
This price is a substantial 68% higher than the April 2023 price, which was N842.25 per litre.
It also represents a 5.51% increase from March 2024, when the average price was N1,341.16.
This information is crucial for businesses and anyone who relies on diesel for transportation.
Price Differences Across States
The report indicates that diesel prices vary greatly from one state to another.
The highest prices were in Taraba State at N1,742.46 per litre, followed by Bauchi State at N1,669.63, and Borno State at N1,652.61.
On the lower end, Niger State had the lowest price at N1,023.00 per litre, with Kogi State at N1,152.50 and Adamawa State at N1,257.50.
In terms of regional differences, the North West Zone had the highest average price at N1,227.31 per litre, while the South South Zone had the lowest at N1,039.90.
Top Ten Most Expensive States for Diesel
The report also lists the ten states with the highest diesel prices:
1. Taraba – N1,742.46
2. Bauchi – N1,669.63
3. Borno – N1,652.61
4. Yobe – N1,637.25
5. Bayelsa – N1,570.00
6. Imo – N1,534.79
7. Cross River – N1,531.25
8. Nassarawa – N1,520.00
9. Enugu – N1,518.41
10. Anambra – N1,508.04
Impact of Dangote Refinery Price Adjustment
Business Elites reported on Dangote Refinery, which recently increased its price to N1,100 per litre as the naira continues to fall against the dollar.
This has led to oil marketers buying diesel at about N1,200 per litre.
Additionally, petrol prices at many private depots have risen to N710 per litre, pushing the pump price to N750.
These changes in fuel prices are likely to affect many areas of Nigeria’s economy, from the cost of daily travel to the operation of industries that use diesel-powered machines.
