Two local security operatives have been killed and three others injured in a late-night attack by gunmen at Angwan Tsarki settlement in Mangor, Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 11 p.m. while the members of the local vigilante group were on duty patrolling the community, according to details published in a recent security report detailing the Plateau attack.
Local sources confirmed that the armed assailants stormed the area unexpectedly, catching the security operatives off guard. The three injured vigilantes were rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment, while security reinforcements were deployed to comb the surrounding bushes for the fleeing attackers.
Security Challenges in Plateau Communities
Plateau State has faced persistent security challenges, with rural communities and farming settlements frequently targeted by armed groups. Local vigilante groups often serve as the primary line of defense for these vulnerable settlements, frequently operating with limited equipment while awaiting formal intervention from state security forces.
The latest assault underscores the growing risks faced by community security networks operating across North-Central Nigeria. State authorities and the Plateau State Police Command are expected to provide further updates on ongoing manhunts and security measures following the incident.
