US Election: Donald Trump Coasts to Victory as Kamala Harris’ Path Shrinks

Republican former president Donald Trump is in comfortable lead in the keenly contested nearly-concluded US election. Trump’s electoral vote is currently at 266 while Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris’ electoral vote is 219.

Although the election results are still coming in, US media projected that Trump has won in 24 states, including big prizes Texas and Ohio, and key battleground states – Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina.

The deciding number is 270, and Donald Trump’s edge is growing to that magic number.

Vote counting is still ongoing as other battleground states of Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin and Nevada would be a significant shift if they go Harris’ way, albeit a long shot.

On the Senate front, Republicans are projected to win majority in the Senate, based on results so far. The party has held a minority position in the chamber since 2021. So, this win would change the power dynamics in Washington.
