US Embassy in Nigeria Updates Immigrant Visa Process Starting January 1, 2025

The US Embassy in Nigeria has announced a revision in the immigrant visa process effective from January 1, 2025. According to a recent post on the embassy’s official X page, visa applicants will now need to visit the Consulate General in Lagos twice during their application process.

The updated process requires that applicants with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, make their first visit for an In-Person Document Review. This review is conducted by consular staff to ensure all necessary documents are in order before the visa interview.

The second visit involves an actual visa interview with a Consular Officer, which will be conducted by the National Visa Center (NVC).

The embassy emphasises that this new procedure is aimed at better preparing applicants for their interviews and preventing delays in the processing of immigrant visas. They warned that failure to complete the In-Person Document Review before the interview would necessitate rescheduling the appointment.

This change is part of broader efforts to streamline visa operations and enhance the efficiency of the application process for Nigerian applicants.
